Ornithine transcarbamylase (OTC) is a mitochondrial enzyme which catalyzes the
conversion of ornithine into citrulline. In sparse-fur (spf) mutant mice, in which both hepatic
and small intestinal OTC are deficient, only small amounts of citrulline are released into the
