Many exciting advances in our understanding of T cell mediated immunity to bacterial
infection have occurred in the past several years. T cell responses have been more fully
characterized, due in part to the development of MHC class I tetramers. The importance of
cytokines and various effector molecules in defense against infection has come to light.
Finally, intracellular bacteria are being exploited to deliver antigens and DNA in an effort to
induce immunity to pathogens.
