Various extracellular stimuli activate three classes of mitogen-activated protein kinases
(MAPKs): extracellular signal-regulated kinase, c-Jun N-terminal kinase, and p38 MAPK. In
mammalian cells, p38 MAPK is activated by endotoxins, inflammatory cytokines, and
